WALK FOR LIFE ON HEARTH

Walk for life on hearth ran on 2nd of September 2023  to raise awareness helping and encouraging people and organisations to act to help tackle the climate crisis, and to protect and improve our green space.

We wanted to raise the profile of  Importance for Climate Change and engage people in activities that helped them not only enjoy event but also developed their identification skills and increased their knowledge of climate change

We were supported by the natural heritage micro grant to run this free, nature-based project on 2nd of September 2023.

Together we learnt more about Climate change, Importance for walking and whole envirnoment.

Local residents got involved in a number of ways:

  • Weekend events: Natural arts, talks and activities. Free and open to everyone.

  • Becoming a project volunteer: Local residents met people from their local area and earnt new skills

Skills

94% of participants reported learning something new or gaining new skills as a result of this project

Exploring

19% more people used the park for exploring nature.

Attendance

30% increase in the average number of social housing residents attending the weekend events

Young

Average number of young people (aged 11 - 25 years) attending weekend events increased by 20%

Diversity

24% increase in the number of residents from BAME groups attending weekend events

Knowledge

34% more people had a 'high knowledge' of climate change (5 or more correct examples) by the end of the project

Volunteers

3 people joined the volunteer development programme, and 7 reported gaining new skills
